NEW YEAR’S HACKS FOR YOUR HOME

These ten-minute changes are surprisingly effective

How many years do we make resolutions that we just don’t keep? Some have even sworn off resolutions altogether in light of the constant cycle of promise and failure. What better way to break the cycle than these fixes for your home that literally take ten minutes or less? No lengthy, overwhelming or expensive planning needed; just start:

Angle actually
It’s amazing what a slight shift in the furniture can do to a room. Get rid of the grid. Step outside the perpendicular box and try changing the angle of some of the pieces in the room. This works especially well with accent pieces, like a chair or ottoman.

Shower power
Improving something from your daily routine can feel like a huge win. Spend a bit of money to upgrade your shower nozzle. There are some great products that won’t break the bank and can fit onto your current plumbing. Turn your shower from functional to luxurious, or get a water saver and save money while doing your part for the planet at the same time.

Space out
Make the room feel lighter and more relaxed by adding some space between the furniture. You might be surprised what an extra 5-10 cm does. If you can, try moving the furniture a bit away from the wall as well.

Clutter walks
Take a walk through a room and gather up as much clutter as you can. Or attack that one pile that always accumulates. Buy some dollar store files or storage bins that fit under your sofa and make your room clutter free.

Make it count
Get new house numbers for your entrance. Choose something fresh or creative to update your home’s first impression. Every time you come inside you will get that “new” sense of satisfaction.
